General characteristics of sample
As shown in Table 1, the majority of elderly in the intervention and the control groups (86.1%, 85.7%, respectively) were female. The average age of the intervention group was 69.8 (SD=5.4) whereas the average age of the control group was 68.2 (SD=5.7). 47.2% and 65.7% of intervention and control group participants, respectively, were married.
