The following set of papers presents a special section of the outputs from Pedometrics 2011, the international conference of the Commission 1.5 on Pedometrics of the International Union of Soil Sciences. The conference was held in the Castle Hotel Třešť, Czech Republic, from August 31 to September 2, 2011. It was organized by the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague as the local organizer under the auspices of the Pedometrics Commission. More than 80 participants from 27 countries from around the world attended the meeting and presented 45 oral presentations and 42 posters in addition to three keynote lectures (J.A. Vrugt, P.B. Marchant, and J.J. de Gruijter who was awarded the Richard Webster medal during the conference). The principal topics were pedometric methods for soil assessment, uncertainty analysis, uncertainty propagation and accuracy assessment, soil sampling, soil monitoring, soil–landscape and space–time modeling, 3D modeling and data assimilation, soil geostatistics, and signal processing of remote and proximal sensing applied to soils. New ideas, methods and approaches were shown and various applications of pedometric methods were demonstrated.
