The educational level of marine fishermen family members in
Spermonde Archipelago was low. Most of the family members only
finished elementary school and none had a higher education, which
makes it very difficult for them to find a job outside the fishery. Due
to the lack of education, most fishermen do not have much
knowledge about the impact of their fishing activities on the
environment. Since most fishermen were illiterate it is hard to
reach them and explain their impact or teach them on how to use
the coral reef resources in a more sustainable ways. A similar situationwas
also observed in Mauritius, where fishermen had a very
low education, which is linked up with the environmental degradation
