These guidelines have been developed mainly from the perspective of Indo-European languages that are rather different from the Finnish language. For instance, the endings and affixes that make words long are a natural part of the Finnish language. Moreover, the rich morphological and syntactical variation of the Finnish language needs a special attention and guidelines of its own. This is why The Finnish Centre for Easy to Read has used these international guidelines as a starting point, but enriched them with guidelines special to Finnish language.
