Some of the most notable cases of
intervention by regional organizations to date
include: Organization of American States (OAS)
in conflicts in Haiti and Nicaragua and between
El Salvador and Honduras; the Organization for
African Unity (OAU) in Burundi, Liberia,
Somalia and Sierra Leone; the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Cambodia;
and NATO in the former Yugoslavia. In this paper,
I will make a comparison between ASEAN’s
method of dealing with the conflict in Cambodia
and the Organization of American States (OAS)
in its role in the conflict in Haiti.
