Summary: this book is about a class with a teacher. They are from the Hawkwood School. The teacher found that children must have ambition. He says that the children themselves must register for a competition with running, shouting, swimming and cross country riding. There are some children who like that. The teacher, called Sam Sylvester, selected a team. The children in the team are: Hoomey, Jazz, Bean and Gary. Because Nutty is a girl she can’t play with them, so she is the coach. All 4 boys get a horse. They are not really good horses but she has no money for better horses. Hoomey called his horse Bones, because it is very thin. Jazz get a circus horse and called him Spot. Bean called his horse Whizzo because he is very slow. The horses are sleeping and living in an old factory. Nails, the brother of Gary, was in a night going to the horses. He loves Gary’s horses very much and calls it Luck Lady Firelight. She must have lessons but it’s £50,00 a week. That’s too much. The competition doesn’t continue. The horses are from a slaughterhouse when they stop the horses are still dead. Jazz and Hoomey realise that. Nutty had an idea: she asked Nails to be the fourth player and she herself the third player. Nails agrees. She find a horsewoman who wants to give them lessons. Nails learn the children swimming (very hard-handed). They run of and to school. They practice the complete winter. When it becomes spring, it’s always busy in the swimming pool. So they look for an other swimming pool. They find a Privé swimming pool from a Seb Smith. On Friday evening there’s nobody in the swimming pool so the team from the Hawkwood school is going to train there. On a moment it’s going fault. The mother in the house is coming home. And the children are caught. Bud Seb Smith isn’t angry bud he want know why the children here are. They tell the story about the competition. He agrees and the children can swim in the pool. He can also care for shoot lessons. The children get shoot lessons on school and so see Sam that the Hawkwood school still has a team. On that night horse Firelight is very restless and that night there’s a foal born. Now he can’t ride on Firelight at the competition. But the trainer has an other young good horse for him. He found it great. Nutty’s sister, Gloria, say that the Greycoats (them opponent) not would lose and thinking about false playing.
On the day of the competition Nails is to late. shooting does not go well. By it swimming prove that not all the children from the Greycoats swim but an other child. As all the children from the Hawkwood team have been swimming Nails is coming he swim fantastic. Running is very heavy for Nutty and she runs after the Greycoats. As the last is cross country riding. Nutty does is fantastic. Then is Hoomey, his start is good but on the way something goes wrong. The Greycoats intend the song `God save a Queen` plays because circus horse go then lying. On that moment Nutty concludes that she or Jazz changed go riding on Spot. As Nutty out the boss comes see she Hoomey on Bones the hill up comes. Bones jump over the fence and the official is running to the car. In the car sit the boy crawled under his chair and forgets to play the song. Before the official is back Nutty and Spot are still keep on. As come out that all teams playing falls there decided there are no winners and no losers. Bud it express all in all good because Jazz can in the competition team from the Greycoats; Nails have a job by Biddy so he can work with horses; Nutty realise that she was a good coach; and Hoomey wish what he will be : A FAMOUS HORSE RIDER!!!
My opinion: I found this a nice book bud the book was very difficult. Bud the content was nice.
