Daniels maintains that Sir John Vickers' independent commission on banking, set up by the government soon after the election, would be making a big mistake if it sought a break-up of Lloyds with its 30 per cent-plus share in several retail markets.
'All the research done says that concentration does not lead to uncompetitive outcomes. Concentration allows for safety and stability,' he says.
