Qualifications
Some employers, such as small inns or boutique hotels, may accept front-office managers who only have a high school diploma as long as she has long-term experience working in a hotel. Most full-service chains, however, prefer applicants with bachelor’s degrees in hotel management or hospitality. Facilities without full services, such as motels, often require an associate degree or a certificate in hotel management or operations. Educational programs typically cover hotel administration, accounting, housekeeping, food services and maintenance. New employees may start as assistant managers until they acquire experience and show leadership.
