Job Descriptions
Often, the most immediate use of job analysis and competency modeling results in writing job descriptions that detail what the jobholder is expected to do and the competencies needed for the job. Job descriptions are part of the written contract that governs the employment relationship. A JOB DESCRIPTION SPELLS OUT ESSENTIAL JOB functions or duties, describes the conditions in which the job is performed, and states special training or certification requirements for the job. Exhibit 5-4 shows portions of a job description for a job at a hospital.
