These results strongly indicate that
allicin is responsible for the anti-inflammatory effect of FRGE.
However, low anti-inflammatory effects of allicin compared with
FRGE might be resulted from instability of purified allicin. Both
FRGE and HRGE reduced SNP- and LPS-induced NO production.
However, FRGE and HRGE showed different effect in the LPS-induced
NO production, but not in the SNP-induced NO production.
FRGE markedly reduced LPS-induced NO production compared to
HRGE. This difference may result from HO-1 modulated by allicin
in the FRGE, which is likely to related to LPS-induced NO production.
Different stimulus might produce the same results through
different signal transduction pathways.
