Abstract: In the absence of any contraindications,
exercise during pregnancy has
been shown to be extremely beneficial,
not only for the mother, but for the fetus
as well. It helps to ease pregnancy-related
symptoms, maintain glycemic control,
and to reduce or maintain pregnancy and
post-partum weight gain. Exercise does
not affect fetal birth weight, fetal size, or
gestational age negatively. The purpose of
this article is to inform providers about
new research guidelines to be used when
recommending exercise, and what modifications
may be necessary when talking
with their patients.
