The study found that higher nursing accreditation
levels may improve patient safety, indicating that
nursing accreditation level may be a novel means of
improving patient safety. However, more research is
needed to confirm such a relationship. A longitudinal
study design may be used to test whether a single nurse
has increased patient safety performance when she/he
upgrades her/his nursing accreditation level. Further
research is also needed to investigate the nursing
behavioural or psychological variables that may
mediate the impact of nursing accreditation level on
patient safety. Such additional research can provide
further insights that contribute to future health system
designs.
