Factors previously found to influence peritonitis
were body mass index (BMI), diabetic kidney
disease and baseline serum albumin. Previous studies
have shown that higher BMI is associated with a shorter
time to first peritonitis episode and episodes of peritonitis
per case per year are significantly higher among
patients with higher BMI. However, due to the lower
prevalence of obesity in the Thai population, it remains
to be seen whether these data can be extrapolated to
Thai patients.
