The present study showed that the Yo-Yo tests
performance correlated with the amount of HIA
performed in games. Moreover, as observed in elite
male players (Krustrup et al., 2003), this study did
not reveal any correlation between maximal oxygen
uptake and match performance. Altogether, the
results of the present study provide evidence that
the performance on the Yo-Yo IR1 and Yo-Yo IE2
tests are good predictors of high-intensity activity
throughout youth male football games. Nevertheless,
the Yo-Yo IR1 test could give a better indication of
the ability to perform maximal exercise during a
match.
