Among 650 subjects who underwent this checkup in 2010,
414 (average 66.3 years, range 39–90 years) underwent
orthopedic and physical function examinations. Of those 414
subjects, 315 underwent radiographs of the lumbar spine,
SpinalMouse measurements, and physical examinations
(back muscle strength, BMI). We excluded anyone less than
70 years old, so the current study included 135 people
([70 years, 54 males, 81 females), with an average age of
76.5 years (range 70–90 years; SD 4.7). All subjects performed
a self-assessment checklist for locomotive syndrome
and an examination to determine back muscle strength and
BMI. The Committee on Ethics in Human Research of
Nagoya Univeristy approved the study protocol.
