3.3. SPS data compared with replicated experiments
The association between SPS LP with subsequent replicated yield is important for having confidence in selection during early generations; this relationship was significant for each population (P < 0.05, Fig. 1). Despite a wide range and variation for replicated
yield in population CSX206, the highest yielding lines were identified as having high LP in SPS. Mean LP and yield were consistent with Table 2.
The associations between SPS LP, length, strength and micronaire with the same measures subsequently measured in replicated data were also significant (P < 0.05, data not shown) indicating best
and worst values for length and strength could be identified in SPS.
