Strengths and Limitations
of the Domination Metaphor
Most of what has been discussed in this chapter under the label of domination can, from another standpoint, be seen as
but an unintended consequence of an otherwise rational system of activity. The negative impact that organizations often have on their employees
or their environments, or that multinationals have on patterns of inequality and world economic development, is not necessarily an intended one.
It is usually a consequence of rational actions through which a group of
individuals seeks to advance a particular set of aims, such as increased
profitability or corporate growth.
