TROUBLESHOOTING DIESEL ENGINES
15-3. Many troubles encountered by an engine operator can be avoided if prescribed instructions for starting
and operating an engine are followed. The lists of troubles which follow are not complete and all of these
troubles do not necessarily apply to all diesel engines because of differences in design. A successful
troubleshooter generally associates a trouble with a particular system or assembly. The troubles here are
discussed according to when they might be encountered, either before or after the engine starts. They are
indicative of the system to which they apply. Therefore, further identification is unnecessary.
