copy-and-modify reuse (or copy-and-edit reuse)
A widespread (but also very vicious) form of reuse where the reuser takes a copy of a component and starts modifying it without maintaining any form of consistency with the original component. In other words, there is no systematic way of keeping the two versions synchronised. The danger is of course a proliferation of versions, and an inability to upgrade to new versions of a component. This form of reuse only brings benefits on a very short-term basis.
