4.2. Identify the main dimensions—eight dimensions for sustainable tourism development
As the dimensions (sub-systems) of the two systems mentioned above, and as a mediator between the two systems and indicators, dimensions should be identified in sustainability assessment. It is widely accepted that tourism should contribute to sustainable development at the local, regional, and national level. In other words, STD is unlikely to be achieved unless the dimensions in a tourist destination are sustainable. In this study, eight dimensions are suggested. The human system includes the political; economic; socio-cultural aspects; and production structure (the quality of services and products for tourists), while the ecosystem as similates general environmental impacts; ecosystem quality of water, land and air; biodiversity of flora and fauna; and environmental policy and management (see Table 3).
