3.1.1. Selectivity
A substance’s positivity was verified when the chromatogram proved the presence of a signal whose relative retention time was identical to the reference substance analyzed simultaneously and under the same conditions. After the analytical evaluation of the two groups of blood, urine and vitreous humor samples, the chromatograms did not show analytical signals interfering with correct identification and quantification of the studied substances. The first group of samples was negative, while the second group showed positive results for substances that were previously added. The assay proved to be selective and specific for all tested compounds in blood, urine and vitreous humor samples. Other substances (formaldehyde, ethanol, ethylene glycol, hexane, dichloromethane) were also injected to verify that they do not co-elute with the compounds and internal standard.
