Recently Disney Editions released Walt Disney: Drawn from Imagination, by Bill Scollon, a biography about Walt Disney that is written specifically for kids. Unlike some of the other Walt Disney biographies, Walt Disney: Drawn from Imagination, does not go into detail about his life, but rather touches on every aspect before quickly moving to the next. This book is probably not for the diehard Disney fan (although you will learn some facts about Walt that you may not have known before), but it is definitely a great foundation for young people.
Scollon does an excellent job of following Walt through the various stages of his life. The thirteen chapters touch on his early years (Century of Promise, Rural Beginnings, The Big City and Growing Up), through his Hollywood years (Launching a Career, Hollywood, Mickey Mouse, The Fairest of them All, Challenges and The Small Screen), and conclude with Walt’s theme parks and untimely death (The Happiest Place on Earth, Looking East and Untimely Passing).
