Here is an example of how to take note using Cornell method.
Remember! There are key things you need to keep in mind start writing your own notes.
1. When attending lectures, try to write your notes in class. Fill in the 1&2 sections along the way. At the end of each class or when you have time, finish section 3. Re-read your note ASAP to see if you can understand it. If you do catch the points in your teacher's lectures, it will minimize your study time outside the class.
2. If you have bad handwriting, or aren't able to write fast... or cannot catch a lot of things in class, it's OK to rewrite your notes with better handwriting and contents. The more you practice, the more you will be better.
3. You can add teachers' comments on the 1 section.
4. You can add your thoughts in the 1&3 sections.
5. Remember that there is no absolute right or wrong when it comes to note taking methods. So, there's no points to stick to just 1 particular system. As you write your notes, try to come up or even invent new methods or techniques that serve you best. Sometimes it also depends to the nature of your subjects and majors. However, the bullet system usually works!
6. Write in your own words and keep it short. Come up with acronyms and abbreviations for words that you often use. Never copy exactly from your original texts. Also, leave unnecessary details behind and sum up the important information and main ideas.
7. Don't go too crazy with decorations, color pens and highlighters. Using too many colors in your notes can be overwhelming and distracting. Try not to use more than 3-4 colors. Remember every thing you put in your note should be functional and practical.
8. Don't forget to reference books, articles, charts, etc., so you will not get lost when you need to look at original texts.
