Analytical procedure
The COD of the samples were determined by the standard dichromate open reflux method [19]. The chloride concentration was estimated by the standard titrimetric Volhard method [20]. Phosphates were determined by using standard methods [19]. The protein content was evaluated by the Lowery method [21]. The color of the sample was measured in term of percentage decrease in adsorbance at 420 nM [22]. For all the colorimetric analysis UV–vis spectrophotometer (Thermo Electron Corporation, USA) was used. Thermal analysis (TGA/DTGA/DTA) of the sludge obtained after the treatment of SIWW with iron electrode was carried out at the Institute Instrumentation Centre, IIT Roorkee, India, using a TG analyzer (Pyris Diamond, Perkin–Elmer, England).
