It has been reported that Lactobacillus paracasei, a stress resistant strain isolated fromoyster, showed a significant antagonistic
effect on fish pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio proteolyticus.
In aquaculture, successful probiotic strains are of great concern as many fish pathogens have developed antibiotic resistance, but usage of broad spectrum antibiotics has been banned in many countries.
Further, consumption of aquatic products grown with high antibiotic treatment has also a considerable effect on human health.
A recent finding (Muñoz-Atienza et al., 2013) reported that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from various marine sources have clear potential to be used as probiotic strains to control fish pathogens.
