The battery comprises 80 nickel-cadmium cells. Each cell has a nominal voltage of 1.2 V per cell and a capacity of 140 Ah at the 5 hour rate of discharge.
The 80 Battery cells are installed within two stainless steel battery trays. The cells of each tray are connected in series using copper inter cell connectors and flexible copper inter step connectors shrouded with plated nickel. Halogen free isolated copper power cable connect the cell of each tray to the affiliated plug connecting.
A serial connection of the cell blocks of both trays is provided between both sockets of the power cable plug connections and from each of these sockets one connection cable is conducted through the rear cover of the battery box feeding the DC 110 V power system of the vehicle. Fluted plastic packs are used between the cell rows to provide an air gap avoiding heat build up.
