Despite the criticisms levied on the program of study, the participants were
overwhelmingly (90 percent) willing to recommend it to their colleagues. Such a high
recommendation appears to be related to personal opportunity, social prestige, and
economic feasibility. Not only it is difficult to complete graduate studies in western
countries – especially the USA and Canada – it is economically prohibitive for the
majority of the population. Hence, local programs offer a viable economic alternative
without considerable sacrifice to social prestige. It should be remembered here that
attaining a university degree from a western country carries greater social prestige in
developing countries than attaining a degree from a local university or a university
from another developing country. The results of this study seem to support this
supposition.
