The total EU forest area subject to analysis is estimated to be
1652.2 million ha (150.2 million ha for 11 years between 2002 and
2012). Temperate broadleaf and mixed forests have
the largest share of the biome. Sweden has the most extensive forest
cover, followed by Spain, Finland, France and Germany. These
five countries account for more than half of the total forest cover
analyzed (Table 2). The Netherlands, Ireland and the United Kingdom
show the lowest relative forest cover (10.8%, 11.5% and 11.9%,
respectively).
