We stayed at the Code because, well, it was the #1 rated hotel on Trip Advisor at the time, ahead even of the Four Seasons (now it is #3, just behind it).
I just looked through the reviews to see what people thought was negative to bring it down, and I can understand that this place is a bit remote, and that staying there for a long time without transportation may not be ideal.
To be fair, I find Koh Samui to be one of the most repulsive places I've ever been in my life, and generally do my best to pass through there as quickly as possible en route to one of the other islands with no airport. The beaches are nice, but the second you leave the beaches it is disgusting, filthy, there is garbage everywhere, and it smells like sewage...the amazing thing to me is how expensive it has become, and people actually seem to think it is a nice holiday destination. Sure, go to Koh Samui, then take the boat to Koh Phangan, and go away from the south side of the island (which is not much better than Koh Samui), and it is cheap and nice.
So, that said, when I had to be there, a place a bit isolated that was nice and clean was appealing, and the Code lived up to it 100%. Room was great, pool was great, staff was great, breakfast was great.
I was a bit disappointed with the restaurant aside from breakfast; the reviews here raved about how great and cheap it was, but I found the menu to be quite uninspiring, and the food nothing special at all. It is true that Koh Samui is now filled with extremely overpriced restaurants with very unimpressive food now, but you can still find pretty decent Asian food for extremely low prices, if you go away from the beach.
