After PW Botha offered Mandela his freedom if he renounced violence as a political weapon, Mandela's daughter Zindzi read his response to a packed stadium near Johannesburg, reiterating his commitment to the ANC and that his freedom could not be bought at the expense of the people's. For, without the dismantling of apartheid and the unbanning of the ANC, the release of political prisoners and the ability of the people to decide who will govern them, there was no freedom for anyone.
