Manila-About a dozen prisoners tunneled out of a jail in the southern Philippines, local police said on January 14.
According to Mindanao region police chief Bensali jabarani, the prisoners escaped through a tunnel about 10 meters long and 11 meter wide, which police found hidden beneath books and prayer mats.
Most of the prisoners were serving sentences for murder and illegal gun possession. One of the prisoners was shot while crawling out of the tunnel, while the others managed to escape.
