SR: Can you give us a brief background on MUNICH and the brand in general?
BF: The brand was originally named after the family, Berneda, but in 1964, in anticipation of the 1972 Olympics, rebranded and switched the name to MUNICH. The name MUNICH carries with it a unique sports connotation, and to accompany that, the distinctive X became the company logo. The third generation of the Berneta family then decided to enter the fashion space and produce everyday street wear in 1999. Focusing specifically on the futsal aspect of the company, the Gresca, which depending on the interpretation means “In the heart of the mix” in Catalan, was Europe’s Samba if you will. The trademark White/Blue shoe with the X served as an identifier of those who truly loved and had a passion for the game.
