METACOGNITION
Being conscious of our own thinking and problem solving during the acts of thinking and problem solving is known as metacognition. It is a uniquely human ability occurring in the neo-cortex of the brain. Interestingly, it has been found that good problem solvers employ metacognition-planning a course of action before beginning a task, monitoring them-selves during execution of a plan, backing up or adjusting a plan consciously, and evaluating themselves upon completion.
