Male and female employees within the public sector work in separate buildings. When they must meet together, they do so within meeting rooms in the Governors office, in which males and females must use separate entrances. However, within the private sector, males and females may work together, but there are other limitations.
Although there are now more female than male university graduates in Saudi Arabia, only about 7 percent of the workforce is female. Why? The answer is partially cultural. Some women prefer traditional family roles. Some find driving restrictions to be too much of a hassle. Finally, some families prohibit women members rom working because of family honor, i.e., “What will people think?”
