Assuming that a complete oxidation and ‘biodegradation’ of the mixture of BTEX took place, i.e. ignoring the biomass generated, the stoichiometric ratio and total carbon dioxide produced to VOCs
(BTEX) consumed (i.e. PCO2 /EC) was 2.396. It could be seen in Fig. 4 that a linear correlation was found between elimination capacity and carbon dioxide production. It was also observed that for complete chemical oxidation of styrene, the ratio of carbon dioxide produced to styrene removed was 3.4 (Rene et al., 2010)
