condition at 120 rpm and 30 °C for 18 h. Batch fermentation runs were carried out in duplicates in a 110 mL serum vials using 80 mL working volume in sterile condition. Fermentation was performed using different concentration of Magnesium carbonate ranging from 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 mmol/L to investigate the effect of CO2 on succinate production. Magnesium carbonate with molecular formula 4MgCO3•Mg(OH)2•5H2O from R&M chemicals owned by Gainful Enterprise Malaysia was used as the carbonate source.
