NYPD officials on Friday announced a plan to help combat the disturbing uptick of robberies on senior citizens – a day after an 85-year-old granny was robbed inside a Bronx apartment building.
Speaking from police headquarters, Chief of Department Carlos Gomez said he’s informing his officers to offer safety tips and conduct wellness checks on to the elderly population within their commands.
The message cops will convey at senior centers and other community meetings will be to “basically ‘be aware of your surroundings,’” said Gomez.
The remarks come at a time where over 300 senior citizens have been mugged in the city this year.
