Beyond conceptual appreciation, the empirical analysis of the interplay between destination
governance, destination management and destination leadership also appears to be a
promising area of research. Valente et al. (2014) show that governance structures affect the
leadership capacity of RTOs: industry-led governance arrangements may facilitate the
transformational leadership capacity of RTOs, but isolate them from the broader destination
