So let's take a closer look at what we see over inside this part here.
What we see is that this consists of three different parts.
Something which we called the transmitter, the channel, and the receiver.
So remember, the source has some kind of information
that we're going to represent with something which we call bits.
And then, those bits then are going to be converted into a physical waveform
by the transmitter.
That physical signal, be it light, voltage
or any other kind of physical signal, is going
to be then carried over what's called the channel to this block down
here, which is the receiver.
And the idea is that this receiver is going to look at the signal
that it receives and then try to decode what the bits were.
And so now what we're going to do is take a look
at each one of these different parts, starting
from the bits and then all the way through this chain.
