A separate dermal safety trial was conducted over a 2-month period at two test sites in central inland NSW (Australia). The 10 horses used in the trial were either Thoroughbreds or Australian Stockhorses with an estimated weight range (Carroll and Huntington, 1988) of between 271 and 536 kg (median = 472 kg). The season chosen for this study (autumn) provided an opportunity to evaluate triflumuron applied on both summer and winter coat types and those coats within a seasonal transitional period.
Research authority for efficacy and safety trials was conducted in accordance with regulations administered by the NSW Department of Primary Industries. Trials received animal ethics approval nos. JAEC/04/003, JAEC/05/001 and JAEC/05/002.
