Many reports have discussed the effects of organic amendments
applied to agricultural soils after 5 or more years[24,31]. However,
banana growers in China need to observe the economic benefits in
a short time frame. Therefore, we conducted this research study to
investigate the fast response of infected soil to organic amendment.
Our results indicated that banana fusarium wilt disease incidences
varied with different composts and bio-organic fertilizer. The results are consistent with previous work that indicated more than
half of the examined composts showed effective disease control
abilities or no increase in disease incidence[8]. Numerous articles
have reported that composts can suppress soil-borne diseases
[32,33]. In the present study, bio-organic fertilizer (BIO) showed the
most effective disease control ability compared to PM and GCK
treatments. Several research studies from our laboratory have
indicated that bio-organic fertilizer possesses a more suppressive
effect on soil-borne diseases than compost alone[11,15], which may
be due to the addition of special bio-control bacterial strains to the
compost
