It is the premise of this research that creating successful e- commerce projects requires combining technical and business capabilities. This represents an extension of traditional IT development projects that also require a mixture of technical and interpersonal abilities to create artifacts that are useful and that work properly. In e-commerce projects, particularly those that directly link an organization with its clients and/or suppliers, there are fewer degrees of freedom to accommodate technically correct but user-unfriendly approaches. Organizations may not have the leverage to mandate the use of a difficult but functional program; may not have the resources to supplement barebones interfaces with additional user training; and may not recover from embarrassing or costly interactions with clients.
