In emergencies, disposal methods that are on site or close to dwellings are often preferred
too off site disposal methods. On site methods are preferable because no waste is
removed and therefore no transport is needed especially
when personnel resources are limited. On site disposal is
appropriate where waste volumes are low, where there is
plenty of space available and waste is largely organic or
recyclable.
Off site disposal is appropriate when large volumes of
waste are generated or when available space among
dwellings is limited. The following measures must be
considered when selecting and developing an appropriate
