These perceptions of QOL continued throughout
history. Following World War II, economic growth
and improvements in living standards resulted in
an increase in peoples expectations of satisfaction,
well-being and psychological fulfillment
(Awad and Voruganti, 2000). American President,
Lyndon Johnson first introduced the term quality
of life in a 1964 address. Following his Great Society
presentation, there were attempts to advance
QOL by focusing on social programs such as education
and manpower, community development and
housing, and health and welfare (Roberts and Clifton,
1991).
