I'd say convenience. Everything becomes so convenient, nobody does anything the hard or challenging way.
That's right - and it's with challenges that we gain a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. An now, due to the increased convenience of everything, fullfilment is being replaced by apathy and indifference at an alarming rate.
We're at the point where people don't even push or pull doors open anymore - they go to the door for the handicapped, and push the damned button.
At this rate, it won't be long before people demand a button to automatically wipe their behind after going for a dump.
The majority still fail to understand what seems incredibly - and painfully - obvious: every convenience has an inherent cost. And often, the cost is huge.
"Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind."
~ Thoreau.
