There is a Korean proverb which says The Tailor Makes the Man. 옷이 날게(Clothes make the man). The proverb means that well-dressed people look better and shows Korea people's subconsciousness which bears an emphasis on clothing. Korean people think that clothes can tell about one's personality and culture. For Korean people, clothing take priority over 'food, as shown in the expression "eu 의(clothing) sik 식 (food) and ju 주 (shelter) This came from the thought that a noble man should not reveal his poverty while adjusting himself although he is too poor to have food.
