MA in Special Education with Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Credential
The Master's and Credential Program are designed to prepare interns for special education careers in diverse, multicultural urban schools.

Career Opportunities—The MA Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Credential authorizes graduates to work in a wide variety of positions including working in public and private K-12 schools as special day-class teachers or as resource and inclusion specialists.

To Begin the Program
Entry into the program takes place once per year, and instruction begins during the summer, in June. The complete application must be submitted by March 1 in order to be considered for entry that year. Also, posted bachelor's degree and official passing test scores must arrive prior to the beginning of summer courses.

Requirements >>
Posted bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA in undergraduate courses.
Passing scores on the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) multiple subjects test.
(There are three multiple-subject subtests: language arts and social science; math and science; and PE, human development, and visual and performing arts. Applicants must pass all three subtests.)
Passing scores on the CSET writing skills test. (The California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or an accepted out-of-state CBEST equivalent test may be substituted for the CSET writing skills test with approval from the program.)
Face-to-face interview with program coordinator.
Interviews take place after the application packet is complete.
Employment as a special education teacher by the fall semester of the program (job placement assistance is available).
Prior classroom experience preferred but not required.
