The results obtained (Table 1) show that medium V
was suitable for the growth of Saccharomyces
cerevisiae (I) and on the basis of the results in Table
1, S. cerevisiae (I) was selected for further studies.
Sefry Beesha dates contained 60% total reducing
sugars. When the carbon source of MV was replaced
by an equivalent amount of date sugar extract the
yeast produced 10.7 mg/ml of dry cell biomass. It
was found that 50 mg/ml was the optimum concentration
of sugars (Table 2).
The results obtained (Table 3) show that
(NH4)2504 was more suitable than urea or peptone
for the growth of S. cerevisiae (I). The optimum
concentration of (NH4)zSO4 was 2 mg/ml (Table 4).
The output of yeast biomass was increased with
the increase of biotin concentration, reaching a maximum
of 50 /tg/ml (Table 5). The final pH of the
