Student attitude toward STEM
In 2011, the National Research Council called on
educators to increase the number of students pursuing
STEM career pathways after high school, including students
from groups traditionally underrepresented in
STEM—students of color, women, and students from
low socioeconomic backgrounds. Experts on the President’s
Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology
contend that improving the overall interest and
attitude toward STEM among young students is as
important as increasing the overall level of academic
proficiency in STEM
