This paper aims at providing an example on how to conduct experimental-design study. The example study was launched to assess whether recreation participation (guided by the Dunlap-Heffernan hypothesis) and/or interpretation service influence park visitors’ environmental concern. Results showed a significant effect of recreation participation when integrated with interpretation service. Specifically, interpretation can enhance recreationists ’environmental concern with a larger effect on a consumptive form. Nevertheless, limitations to the study include the fact that recreation activities chosen in this study do not fully represent all activities offered at the park. Grouping recreation activities into appreciative-consumptive typology can limit an understanding about the diversity of recreation experiences.
